| June Goudey in THE FEAST OF OUR LIVES has written a book about opening ourselves to one another, to our imaginations, and to the Divine. She shows us that the "feast of our lives" is both a blues and a rejoicing. By heeding her call, we are drawn deeply into our true selves and into true connection with others. Dr. Goudey has written a book grounded in Christianity and alive in creativity. At its core, this book shows the reader how all life can be an act of worship and a reconnection to our sisters and brothers. Dr. Andrew Canale, psychologist, and author of Understanding the Human Jesus: A Journey in Scripture and Imagination. Newton Centre, MA USA | "June Goudey ...offers a fresh perspective on the Central Christian act of Holy Communion. While writing from within the Reformed tradition, she speaks across confessions, traditions, and denominational divides to invite us all to the feast. None will go away hungry." Majorie Procter-Smith, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Texas
| | "In a time when both theology and the church are heading for rigor mortis ...Goudey builds a bridge to a new sense of truth in this life-giving study of the Eucharist....This is a work of comprehensive biblical, theological, and historical scholarship...which moves Holy Communion from a punitive practice to festive fantasy." Robert T. O'Gorman, Loyola University Chicago
| | "Whether you agree or disagree with the argument, you will be familiar with some of the newest and freshest eucharistic thought in the contemporary church" Glenn T. Miller, Bangor Theological Seminary, Maine
| | "Goudey argues that Holy Communion must be freed from an almost exclusive association with the imagery of (self-)sacrifice and punitive judgment that produces the liturgical aura of funereal guilt, shame, and fear in its 'celebrants'...We are Goudey's companions on a journey through the ever-present plurality of Christian tradition to the potential for relational imagery to embody imaginative hope for our time." Lucinda A. Huffaker, Wabash Center, Indiana
| In The Feast of Our Lives: Re-Imaging Communion, June Goudey has created a masterful critique of sacrificial imagery in the Eucharist. Its constructive insights rest on the premise that imagination is a key factor to becoming human, for it is through our imagination that we are able to embrace God's realm.
